About the Artist

Joanne Gigliotti has been involved in the artistic process throughout her life seeing things in her own unique way; celebrating the beauty and life's joys of ordinary things. The largest body of her work has been created in the medium of Batik Painting. Having used this resist method of painting working on linen and silk, then on rag board, she now batiks individual ceramic bisque, for tile murals. Joanne is represented in many permanent collections including The National Museum for Women in the Arts, The McCormick Collection, The Westinghouse Collection, and The London Library.

Formerly director of The Smithsonian Associate's Studio Arts Department, she has shown work in over seventy one-person, and juried exhibitions, across the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Design, and Sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Education in Art from The Pennsylvania State University. Joanne is also included in Who's Who in American Art, as well as in Who's Who in the East, as an artist and arts administrator. She teaches a yearly master class for artists, and works independently in the art/artist service business.

Ms. Gigliotti participates in the Artists in Hospitals Program through Georgetown Hospital's Studio G and mentors young artists and continues to compile a choice selection of the work of international batik artists and their stories. Currently, she is painting, and creating jewelry and gifts based on her tile designs, and exhibiting her work in museum stores. Full Vitae
